Stockholm is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and also happens to be where I grew up. It’s beautiful to be able to come back and be a visitor here as you see things with new eyes. There are a couple of shops I always go to because of their fresh and new thinking attitude. I often find things here I can’t find anywhere else in the world. Here are my top five shops I recommend you have a look at when you are here.

Nordiska Galleriet / The Nordic Gallery
Filled with furniture, art and interior design from Sweden, Finland and Norway, this shop is located in an old Volvo car shop. The floor tiles are still the same and the open plan shop does the attracts in it justice. You can buy everything from sofas to candles here, all designed by local infamous artists.

Happy Socks
Does what it says on the tin – colourful Swedish design socks for women men and children. Comes with matching underwear if you want or why not buy the same design sock for the whole family? Socks starts at SEK 130. Good quality and fun store.

Savannahs
A new designer shoe concept store from high end Italian and French designers. The shop is located between Gucci and a luxury fashion boutique. Nothing in here you can’t buy anywhere else in Europe, but a cute shop with a lot less people than Harrods or Galleries Lafayette.

Nordiska Kompaniet and PK Huset
Shortened NK by the locals, this is Sweden’s response to London’s Selfridges. Lots of fun international shops inside an old traditional setting. Lovely cafe on the lower ground floor, fresh shrimp and avocado salads on the ground floor and cinnamon buns on the top floor. Great place to warm up for a couple of hours during the winter months. Connected to NK is PK Huset. It has a couple of bigger stores, like a drug store, sailing gear and knitwear. Great sushi on the lower ground, perfect lunch stop.

Madeleine Birger
This is a Danish brand and can be found in some European cities (like London), but the shop in Stockholm is huge and has everything you need for a simple quality wardrobe. The materials and styles are extremely flattering, the price less so. Nice place to stock up on cashmere, sparkly dresses for winter and cool smaller leather goods.
